Therapeutic approaches
Methods chosen to fit the person.
I specialize in CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Brief Strategic Family Therapy, and I use a solution-focused approach throughout. Most people benefit from a blend, so we decide together what to lean on.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT looks at the links between what you think, how you feel, and what you do. When we can see those links clearly, it becomes possible to change the ones that keep you stuck.
What it involves
- Spotting thought patterns that make anxiety or low mood worse
- Testing those thoughts against what actually happens
- Practicing new behaviors and coping skills between sessions
- Building routines that support energy and mood
Motivational Interviewing
Change is easier when it is built on your own reasons. Motivational Interviewing is collaborative and respectful. It helps you sort out mixed feelings and move toward what you want.
What it involves
- Exploring what matters most to you and where you want to be
- Working through feeling torn between staying the same and changing
- Strengthening your confidence in your ability to change
- Choosing a first step that feels doable
Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT)
Problems in a family often live in the way people interact, not in one person. BSFT works with the family together to see those patterns and replace them with healthier ones.
What it involves
- Meeting with family members to understand how everyone is affected
- Identifying patterns of interaction that keep problems going
- Practicing new ways of communicating and supporting each other
- Focusing on specific, practical goals for the family
Solution-Focused Approach
Solution-focused therapy keeps the conversation pointed toward the life you want. We still make room for what hurts, and then we put our energy into your strengths and what is already working.
What it involves
- Describing what better looks like in your everyday life
- Finding times when the problem was smaller or easier to handle
- Noticing the strengths and resources you already use
- Taking one realistic next step at a time
